Rodney Street, Wellsford footpath Rodney Street, Wellsford footpath

We are building a new footpath between Rodney Street and Centennial Park Road in Wellsford.

Project status: construction is underway.

Project overview

Rodney Street is a busy stretch of highway with residential and commercial properties on either side. Nearby is Centennial Park, a popular sporting, recreational and community hub.

There is no safe way to walk between Rodney Street and Centennial Park Road.

On the eastern side of the street, the footpath ends outside 68 Rodney Street. Pedestrians must use the western side of the road, crossing Rodney Street twice to access Centennial Park Road and the park grounds.

The project is funded by the Rodney Transport Targeted Rate. One key aim of the fund is to add vital pieces of infrastructure to expand Rodney's footpath network, making it safer and easier for people to get around.

Planned changes

We are building:

  • a footpath along the eastern side of Rodney Street
  • a footbridge over the railway tracks to Centennial Park Road.

The new footpath will start where the existing path ends outside 68 Rodney Street. It will connect with the footpath at Centennial Park Road.

The footbridge will be east of the existing vehicle overbridge.

We will also:

  • install new streetlights
  • carry out landscaping and planting.

Milestones

Construction began in February 2024. We have built a new footpath along the eastern side of the street. It connects the existing path that ends at 68 Rodney Street to Centennial Park Road.

In June 2024, we installed the girder of the footbridge over the railway tracks.
