Pukekohe train and bus service improvements Pukekohe train and bus service improvements

Following customer feedback, we’re improving the bus services and Southern Line train service in Pukekohe from Monday 28 April 2025.

Train service improvements

Southern Line trains will serve Pukekohe Station every 10 minutes on average at peak commuting times on weekdays.

•    Trains from Pukekohe Station will run every 10 minutes on average from 5:31am until 8:51am, and from 2:49pm until 6:11pm.
•    Trains from Waitematā Station (Britomart) will run every 10 minutes from 6:50am until 9:10am, and 3:50pm until 7:10pm

Trains will mainly use Platform 3, but trains will use other platforms throughout the day, so check the digital display boards before heading down to the platform. There is one digital display at the station entrance near the bus stop off Custom Street, and another on the overbridge that you have to use to get to any platform.

Trains will leave Pukekohe Station every 10 minutes on average. The actual time between trains will be either 12 minutes, 10 minutes or 8 minutes. This is to accommodate freight trains.

We’re not making any other changes to the weekday timetable - the first train will still leave Pukekohe Station at 5:11am on weekdays, and trains will still run every 20 minutes in the middle of the day and every 30 minutes in the evening. We’re not making any changes to the weekend/public holiday timetable.

Reminder: No trains will run from Saturday 12 April to Sunday 27 April 2025. Rail replacement buses will replace trains while we upgrade the rail network and improve your journey. Find out more about the April Rail Upgrades.

Bus service improvements

Extra early morning trips will be added to the start of the weekday timetables for the 391 (northeast Pukekohe), 392 (northwest Pukekohe), 393 (south Pukekohe) and 394 (Paerātā Rise – Pukekohe) bus services.
These extra trips will get you to Pukekohe Station in time to catch the first Southern Line trains.

We’re not making any other changes to the timetables for these bus services. These extra trips will run on weekdays only.

Buses have been timed to allow safe, easy transfers to and from Southern Line trains. However, trains can’t wait for any late running buses – doing so would make the trains late, delay other AT trains and freight trains, and make the crew unavailable for their next service. Similarly, buses cannot wait for late running trains – doing so would make buses late to pick up other customers and start subsequent trips.

Train users won’t pay an extra fare to take a bus to or from Pukekohe Station, as long as the transfer between services takes no more than 30 minutes, you tag on and off each service using the same AT HOP card or contactless payment method, and complete your journey within four hours.
