The Summer Road Reno is on

Summer in Auckland is the season for our summer road resealing and rehabilitation programme.

Our dedicated road crews work all year round but take advantage of the good weather over the summer months. During this time, they repair, reseal and repaint just over 400km of Auckland’s roads. It's the best time to minimise disruptions to road users.

When you’re out and about, give our crews a wave as they work hard to keep your city moving this summer.

How we did last year

Last year we repaired 407km of roads which is 6.1% of the area of our local road network.

What we're planning for this year

We're increasing repairs to 410km of roads by the end of June 2025. This is 6.5% of the area of our network.

During this period there will be over 1,000 people working on the road network.

We have $189m budgeted for road pavement renewals this year. This, combined with our promise to fix potholes fast, will mean Aucklanders having smoother journeys on our roads.

Flood recovery works will continue

We'll also renew the remaining sites that were impacted in the storm events in 2023. To find out more about these works, visit Long-term road repairs from Auckland storms.

How roadworks may impact you

Speed limits: Your safety is important to us so please reduce your speed and follow the signs, light signals and traffic directions while driving through the area. This also helps protect our roading staff.

Road closures: Plan ahead and think about using other routes if a road is closed. We will set up signs and have traffic controllers on the road to help you out.

Parking: You might not be able to use your usual parking space during the roadworks, or drive onto or out of your property. We will let you know about access issues before we start working, and try our best to get such work done as quickly as possible.

Commuting: Bus stops and footpaths might move, but you will see signs and routes that tell you where the new ones are. You can also ask a traffic controller for directions.

How to help keep our crews safe

We understand that roadworks can be disruptive for you. Please be patient and kind to our workers on the road, particularly on hot summer days.

Remember our workers are on the road so they can make driving, walking and commuting in Auckland better for you.
