Walking, driving and cyclingOverview
Residents have raised concerns about vehicles parking at the head of the cul-de-sac. Parked vehicles can block access to driveways. They can also make it difficult for rubbish trucks and other service vehicles to safely enter and turn around.
To address these issues, we’re proposing to install broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) at the head of the cul-de-sac. We will also remove about 4 or 5 on street parking spaces. These changes are intended to improve safety, visibility, and vehicle manoeuvrability while maintaining the residential character of the street.
Latest updates
The feedback we received fully supported the proposal, particularly the need to improve access at the cul-de-sac end. We also received suggestions as noted in the key themes below.
After considering all feedback, we will proceed with the project as planned.
Quote from feedback:
“I support these plans and thank AT for addressing the issue raised by residents.”
1. Support for the proposal and requests for wider improvements
Residents who provided feedback generally supported the proposed changes at the cul-de-sac head. However, some felt similar issues exist along other parts of Miro Road and would like a broader approach to be considered.
Response:
Thank you to everyone who shared their views. We appreciate the support for the proposal and understand why some submitters would like to see improvements considered more broadly along Miro Road.
This project focuses on helping rubbish trucks, emergency services and other large vehicles turn around safely at the cul-de-sac end. While some submitters would like wider improvements along Miro Road, no broader changes are proposed at this stage.
2. Parking, access and safety concerns
A few submitters noted parking pressure and congestion during busy periods, particularly when people visit the nearby beach. Some were concerned that restricting parking at the cul-de-sac may move parking issues elsewhere along Miro Road.
Response:
We acknowledge these concerns and recognise that parking demand fluctuates throughout the year.
The proposed broken yellow lines will help keep the cul-de-sac head clear so rubbish trucks, emergency services and other large vehicles can turn around safely and continue to access the road when needed.
We also understand concerns about parking being displaced to other parts of Miro Road.
To balance safety improvements with the need to retain on-street parking, we are not proposing any additional parking restrictions as part of this project.
3. Other concerns raised
Some submitters raised concerns about stormwater overflow and vehicles parking on berms.
Response:
For stormwater and overland flow concerns, residents can contact Auckland Council to request further investigation.
We acknowledge that vehicles parked on berms can be frustrating for residents, create safety issues, and potentially damage grass, trees and underground services. Auckland Transport can only enforce berm parking where signs are in place prohibiting parking off the roadway.
Auckland Transport receives many requests for these signs and prioritises locations based on factors such as safety risk, the extent of parking issues, available resources and funding. At this stage, Miro Road has not been identified as a priority location for additional parking controls.

Project background
Miro Road is a narrow residential cul-de-sac. Vehicles parked at the head of the street can make it harder for drivers to get around, block driveways and create safety issues.
Residents raised concerns about parking behaviour affecting access and service vehicle movements.
