Funding has been allocated from the Climate Action Transport Targeted Rate (CATTR) (opens in a new tab) to deliver a cycleway along Hobsonville Road. The CATTR funds projects that lower greenhouse gas emissions and lessen the impact of transport on climate change.
Hobsonville Road is an important connection for the cycle network. It links up cyclists to the north and to the west, including the Northwestern Path to the city centre and beyond. It also links local users to:
- bus stations
- ferry terminals
- schools
- businesses
- retail or entertainment.
Timeline
Investigation (scheme assessment and preliminary design)
Considering options including one-way and two-way options. We are now finalising the preferred option.
Public engagement and consultation
We consulted on this proposal from 6 June to 30 June 2023 and got 469 submissions.
The consultation asked for feedback on details of the cycleway design, including:
- the type of cycleway separator
- intersection improvements
- proposed crossing locations
- reallocation of flush median and kerb side space
- the location of bike parking.
For a detailed account of the feedback, download the consultation report (PDF, 3.1MB).

Construction
Construction on the Hobsonville Road cycleway is underway. Stage one of works is taking place on Hobsonville Road and Hobsonville Point Road, between Squadron Drive and Williams Road.
See the stage one works map (PNG, 281KB).
We’re delivering the work in stages, working on a section of the route at a time. This approach helps us deliver the work more quickly by focusing our efforts. It means disruption will be limited to one or two sections at a time.
