Students hold placards with clear, emotive road safety messages to remind passing drivers, including parents and whānau, that slowing down near schools helps keep everyone safe.

Positioned in a visible, strategic location, students encourage safer speeds around the school.

Aim

To raise driver awareness and encourage safer speeds around schools, helping keep students and the school community safe.

Learning opportunities

Students build confidence in communicating important road safety messages to the wider school community. The activity supports student voice and leadership by giving them an active role in promoting safer driver behaviour around their school.

It also helps students:

• understand how speed affects safety
• practise working together in a visible public setting
• recognise that their actions can positively influence the wellbeing of classmates, whānau and the community.
