Walking, driving and busOverview
We are proposing a package of low-cost, targeted improvements to improve traffic flow and safety through the Belmont shops intersection on Lake Road in Belmont.
The Belmont shops intersection is a known congestion and safety pinch point on the Devonport Peninsula, with delays most noticeable during busy morning and afternoon periods.
The project forms part of Auckland Transport’s Network Optimisation Programme, which focuses on practical improvements that make better use of existing road space.
The proposal includes changes to:
- lane layouts
- road markings
- pedestrian facilities
- parking and bus operations.
Public engagement is open from 25 May to 21 June 2026. This feedback will help Auckland Transport understand local impacts and refine the proposal before recommendations are presented to the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board.
For the full proposal details, FAQs and survey, visit the Have Your Say project page.
