Overview

Auckland Transport is improving the crossing outside The Gardens School on Charles Prevost Drive to make it safer for people crossing the road.

We received requests from The Gardens School to improve the existing school crossing. More people cross the road during school drop off and pick up times, which means the crossing needs to be upgraded so drivers can slow down and stop for tamariki and other people crossing.

The existing school crossing is busy during drop off and pick up times. Upgrading the crossing to a zebra crossing will make it clearer for drivers to slow down and stop for tamariki, whānau and other people to cross the road safely.

The improvements we’re making:

  • upgrade the existing school crossing to a zebra crossing with a refuge island, allowing people to cross in 2 stages
  • install a side island on the northern side of the road to improve visibility
  • relocate the bus stop from outside 122 to 132 Charles Prevost Drive
  • add broken yellow lines, no stopping at all times, near the crossing to improve sightlines.

Some on-street parking will change to support the new crossing and bus stop location:

  • 3 parking spaces will be removed near the school
  • 2 parking spaces will be removed to relocate the bus stop
  • 4 parking spaces will be added once the bus stop is moved
  • overall, this results in one fewer parking space on Charles Prevost Drive.
