Walking, driving and busOverview
We’re proposing a small but important change outside 880 New North Road to improve safety and reduce congestion in this busy part of Mount Albert.
A single P30 parking space currently narrows the road. When a vehicle parks here, two westbound lanes are forced to merge into one, slowing traffic and causing delays for drivers and buses.
Removing this parking space and installing broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) will help keep traffic flowing smoothly through this corridor.
We aim to complete the work before July 2026. Disruption during implementation is expected to be minimal.
Engagement outcome
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on our proposal to remove the P30 parking space outside 880 New North Road and install broken yellow lines. This recognises the benefits for improving safety and traffic flow along this section of the corridor.
Feedback including from the Mt Albert Business Association supported the proposed changes, and we will proceed with the project as planned.
Works are planned to commence mid-2026.

Project background
We identified delays caused by a single parked vehicle blocking one westbound lane.
Local businesses have also raised concerns about the impact this has on traffic flow and safety.
Removing the P30 space will reduce congestion and improve safety.
This location is part of the busy New North Road corridor, where consistent traffic flow is important for buses, drivers, and people walking.
