Overview

We are planning to improve safety at high‐risk bends across South Auckland. This includes both urban and rural roads.

We have identified multiple sites where low-cost solutions can improve safety. These improvements aim to reduce the risks associated with vehicles losing control, so drivers can safety navigate these high-risk locations.

Our solutions include:

  • high friction surfacing on the approach to and through the bend to enhance the skid resistance of the road surface
  • active warning signs (AWS) to encourage safe and appropriate speeds
  • static signs, road markings, edge marker posts (EMP) and delineations to guide motorists more effectively
  • trimming vegetation to improve visibility.

One or more of these solutions may be used at each site.

Project benefits

Safer speeds around corners

Better signage and road markings will help road users who are unfamiliar with this road to drive safely and manage their speed through the tight curves.

More comfortable driving

Improving the road surface will provide better grip and make the drive through safer and more comfortable.
