DrivingOverview
We’re planning to make changes to James Walter Place to improve visibility and accessibility for all road users.
We’ve heard the community’s concerns about parked vehicles blocking visibility around the bend, making it difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic.
After a site assessment, we have decided to install no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) on the inside of the bend.
The changes we’re making include:
- painting 27 metres of broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) on the inside bend around 33 James Walter Place
- removing four on-street parking spaces to improve access and re-allocate road space.
These changes will improve safety by:
- letting vehicles travelling in opposite directions pass each other more easily
- improving visibility around the bend
- making it easier to access nearby driveways.
If you would like to contact us about the project, please email atengagement@at.govt.nz and include BYL-797 in the subject line by 19 June 2026.
