Overview

This project is about making rural intersections in the Rodney area safer and easier to use.

Around 2,000 vehicles use Mangawhai Road, and over 2,800 use Waiteitei Road every day. This intersection has been chosen as it has a higher-than-normal crash history.

We plan to install an intersection speed zone with variable speed limit signs at the Te Arai junction to make turning here safer and easier. These zones improve safety by letting drivers on Mangawhai Road know they need to slow down because there is a vehicle waiting to turn into or out of Waiteitei Road.

Intersection speed zones can be installed faster and at a much lower cost than major changes like traffic lights or roundabouts. They deliver strong safety benefits with minimal construction disruption. This allows safety improvements to be rolled out at more locations across the network.
