Location

Remuera

Transport involved

Walking, driving, bus and cycling

Overview

From mid-May, we'll be installing:

  • a zebra crossing on Bassett Road with speed cushions on the approaches
  • a raised signalised pedestrian crossing on Brighton Road
  • high skid resistance-surfacing on two legs of the roundabout.

The change to an at-grade zebra crossing (on Bassett Road) was made after a workshop with the Orakei Local Board in December 2025.

This project is part of Auckland Transport's High-Risk Intersection Programme. This programme prioritises safety interventions at high-risk intersections in Auckland.

Between 2019 and 2023, 14 crashes were recorded at this roundabout, including three serious injury crashes, six minor injury crashes, and five non-injury crashes. All serious injuries have occurred since 2022, and the intersection is currently ranked as the 23rd most high-risk intersection in Auckland.

Latest updates

Construction will involve 2 'super weekend' closures: starting Friday night, running all day and night Saturday and Sunday to early Monday morning.

Project benefits

Safer crossings

New pedestrian crossings will enable pedestrians to cross the road more safely and more easily.

Better driver awareness

High friction surfacing and a driver feedback sign will increase drivers’ awareness and encourage more appropriate speeds and reduce the risk of crashes for all road users.

Improved accessibility

Rebuilt footpaths, ramps for prams or mobility scooters, and other upgrades will make it easier for families to get around.

Easier navigation

Improved road markings and upgraded islands will help drivers navigate the roundabout more easily.
