Brightside Road Safety Improvements
Six crashes were reported between 2021 and 2025 at the bend where Brightside Road meets Stanmore Bay Road. These involved drivers losing control or vehicles being hit from behind while waiting to turn right.
Auckland Council is planning minor safety improvements at this intersection to make the road safer for people travelling through the area.
Planned changes include:
- install a flush median to guide drivers safely through the bend and to assist turning movements at the intersection
- install advance warning signs on both approaches to the bend
- remove bus stop #4747 outside 123 Stanmore Bay Road. This bus stop has low usage, and alternative stops are available approximately 240 metres away
- install broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) on both sides of the Stanmore Bay Road and Brightside Road intersection to improve visibility and operational safety at the bend.
Brightside Road Footpath Improvements
Following requests from the community, Auckland Council plans to install a footpath on the northern side of Brightside Road from 162 Brightside Road to the Stanmore Bay Road intersection.
The footpath will provide a safer and easier walking route, particularly on busy sports days when many vehicles are parked nearby.
Planned changes include:
- install a new footpath from 162 Brightside Road to the Stanmore Bay Road intersection
- reconstruct the pram crossings at the pedestrian crossing serving the athletics field frontage on Brightside Road to provide appropriate grades and tie into the new footpath
- reconstruct the pram crossing and install tactile pavers at the Stanmore Bay Road intersection
- install new road markings at the Stanmore Bay Leisure Pool bus stop (#4749).
