George Street bus parking improvements

We recently asked for your feedback on our proposal to improve safety and traffic flow during school pick-up and drop-off times on George Street, Newmarket.

On our site visit, we saw that buses have difficulty finding suitable places to park during school pick-up and drop-off times. This happens daily. We’ve been asked to provide more bus parking to better service the schools.

Public engagement

Public engagement was open from 1 May to 15 May 2026. We mailed letters to residents and property owners along George Street and surrounding streets, and hand-delivered letters to affected businesses. We also had an online survey available on our website. 

We received 9 submissions in total, mostly in support of the proposal: 

• 3 submissions were received through our online survey
• 6 submissions were received via email.

Thank you to everyone who sent us their thoughts. After carefully reviewing the feedback, we will go ahead as planned.

What happens next

We will introduce bus-only parking outside 8 George Street on school days from:

• 7:30am to 8:30am
• 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

During the restricted times, other vehicles will not be able to park there.

Outside of these hours, the space will return to paid parking, as it is within a paid parking zone.

These changes will be installed by September 2026, weather permitting.
