Project details

Start date

October 2026

End date

Early 2027

Location

Aspiring Avenue and Matthews Road, Clover Park

Transport involved

Walking, driving, bus and cycling

Overview

We're planning improvements at the Aspiring Avenue and Matthews Road intersection. These improvements will make it safer and easier for people travelling through the area.

We've identified safety issues at the intersection, including:

  • crashes
  • near misses involving turning vehicles
  • delays during busy periods
  • limited opportunities for people to cross the road safely.

To address these issues, we're proposing to install traffic signals and signal-controlled pedestrian crossings. We're also making changes to parking, bus stops and other road features to support the new intersection layout.

You can provide feedback on this project by 2 November 2026.

Project benefits

Improved intersection safety

Traffic signals will help make the intersection safer. Crashes will be less likely.

Safer crossing

New signal-controlled pedestrian crossings will provide safer and more convenient places for people to cross the road.

Easier to get around

The improvements will help people move through the intersection more safely and make it easier to enter and exit Aspiring Avenue.

Project background

There have been some crashes at the Aspiring Avenue and Matthews Road intersection in recent years. Investigations have also found:

  • near misses involving turning vehicles
  • delays during busy periods
  • high vehicle speeds on Matthews Road
  • a lack of safe crossing facilities for pedestrians.

These issues can make it difficult for people to drive, walk, bike and use public transport through the area safely.

We will:

  • install traffic signals at the intersection
  • provide signal-controlled pedestrian crossings on all approaches
  • change parking near the intersection to make room for the new infrastructure
  • build a retaining wall on Aspiring Avenue
  • shift 4 bus stops and 3 bus shelters
  • remove some on-street parking spaces near the intersection and create new parking spaces where possible.

The proposed changes will improve safety for everyone using the intersection.

They will:

  • make it easier for people to cross the road
  • help manage traffic movements more safely
  • improve access for people entering and exiting Aspiring Avenue.
