Walking and cyclingOverview
To improve walking connections in the area, we’re proposing to:
- widen the footpath on the western side of Kohimarama Road from the Selwyn College Carol White Family Centre driveway to the driveway of 255 Kohimarama Road
- widen the footpath behind the pram crossing on the corner of Kohimarama Road and John Rymer Place, giving people more space to wait before crossing
- build a new retaining wall between the footpath and the existing kerb to support the wider footpath
- rebuild affected driveways along Kohimarama Road so they sit level with the new footpath.

Project benefits
School access

Mobility access
Makes it easier for people with prams, mobility aids and those with limited vision to get around.
Safer waiting space
Gives people more room to travel side by side and to wait safely before crossing at John Rymer Place.
Project background
The Ōrākei Local Board has asked us to improve walking access along this part of Kohimarama Road, near Selwyn College and John Rymer Place.
Many school students walk or use other active modes of transport along this section of Kohimarama Road and cross at John Rymer Place, particularly during busy school times. The current footpath leaves limited room for people to pass each other or wait safely before crossing.
