New footpaths for First View Avenue, Cherrie Road and Wakelin Road in Beachlands
We are planning to build new footpaths along First View Avenue, Cherrie Road and Wakelin Road in Beachlands to make walking safer for residents.

There is currently no footpath on either side of First View Avenue, Cherrie Road or Wakelin Road.
This means people walking in the area don't have a formal, dedicated path and must share the road with vehicles. Providing a footpath will give the community a safer and more comfortable route to walk.
To improve walking connections in Beachlands, we're proposing to:
- build a new footpath along the northern side of First View Avenue, from 2 First View Avenue to 2 Hawke Crescent
- build new footpaths along both sides of Cherrie Road, connecting First View Avenue to Second View Avenue
- build a new footpath along the eastern side of Wakelin Road, from the cul-de-sac to Earling Crescent
- add pram ramps at several locations to create easier, safer crossing points
- re-build some driveways to match the new footpath level, with surfaces reinstated on a like-for-like basis
- add broken yellow lines at 4 intersections to improve visibility for pedestrians and turning drivers.
The new broken yellow lines will mean the loss of 14 on-street parking spaces:
- 3 at First View Avenue
- 9 at Cherrie Road
- 2 at Wakelin Road.

In August 2026, we sought feedback on proposed new footpaths along First View Avenue, Cherrie Road and Wakelin Road in Beachlands. We made the proposal to give the community a safer and more comfortable route to walk. There is currently no footpath on either side of these roads and people must share the road with vehicles.
We got 7 submissions from local residents. Feedback was overall positive. Residents broadly support the safety intent while raising a number of local concerns about specific parts of the proposal.
After considering the feedback, we plan to proceed with the proposed footpath improvements, with the following change — the footpath along Wakelin Road will be removed from the project.
All other items in the original proposal will go ahead as proposed. This includes:
- the footpaths on First View Avenue and Cherrie Road
- the new pram ramps
- driveway reinstatements
- broken yellow lines.
We expect construction to be done by the end of the 2026 to 2027 financial year.
