What it is

Working with senior leadership and their School Travel Coordinator, students set a clear goal for a student‑led assembly.

Assemblies may focus on road safety, rail safety, promoting the Walking School Bus, or another Travelwise initiative, and are shared with the whole school through speeches, presentations, or short skits. 

Aim

To raise awareness of road safety and active travel by sharing school-specific messages in a fun, relevant, and engaging format that resonates with students.

Learning opportunities

By participating in the assembly students develop:

• leadership skills
• presentation and public speaking techniques
• confidence
• teamwork.

Available resources

We can offer:

• access to a Travelwise mascot — either supported by a School Travel Coordinator and actor, or as a loan resource for schools to run independently
• a direct line to School Community Officers (through the School Travel Coordinator)
• messaging signs aligned to the focus of the assembly.
