Walking, driving, bus and cyclingOverview
To make crossing the road safer, we’re planning to upgrade the existing pram crossing outside the reserve to a school-patrolled (Kea) crossing.
This will provide a safer and more visible crossing point, especially for tamariki walking to school.
The changes we’re making in June/July 2026
- Upgrade of the existing pram crossing to a school-patrolled (Kea) crossing outside 25 Malone Road.
- Installation of tactile pavers at the crossing to help people who are vision-impaired cross the road safely.
- Repair of the existing traffic islands and installation of new traffic signs and road markings (limit lines) to remind drivers to stop and wait for pedestrians.
- Addition of no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside 23-26 Malone Road to clear access and improve visibility - we need to reallocate road space and remove approximately 3 parking spaces.
- Installation of additional signs to support these changes.
