What it is
The Travelwise Tree is a popular week-long whole school or class initiative to encourage more students to walk, bike or scooter to school.
We supply a set of leaves and a bare tree, painted onto canvas and ready to be displayed in a prominent position. There are leaves for walking, biking and scootering. When a student walks or wheels to school, they are given a leaf which they can add their name to before sticking it on to the tree.
Over the week the tree grows, as students are encouraged to use active travel more often. By picking leaves off the tree, you can recognise students for being active or perhaps award spot prizes to the best performing class.
Aim
This initiative encourages sustainable active travel across the school, helping more students walk, cycle or scooter to school. This supports healthier travel habits, reduces congestion at the school gate, and creates a safer, more welcoming environment for the whole school community.
Available resources
We can supply a kit which includes:
- a large canvas 'tree'
- a set of leaves, enough for the whole school or class to participate
- spot prizes as incentives.
