The Kelston-New Lynn Walking and Cycling Connections project has identified improvements that will make it safer and easier for people to walk, cycle and scooter to schools, town centres and other community facilities in Kelston, New Lynn and Glen Eden.
In August and September 2024, the community provided feedback on the improvements that had been identified. The feedback, along with the technical assessments and investigations, has helped shape and refine the recommended network and preliminary design.
We’ll share an update with the community on the design changes once they are ready. Any future progression of the project will remain subject to approvals and funding.
Latest updates
Since engaging with the community in 2024, we've been reviewing feedback and undertaking technical assessments to help shape the improvements that could be made to improve the walking and cycling network in Kelston, New Lynn and Glen Eden.
These assessments included safety, parking, planning, environmental, property and arborist assessments to better understand local opportunities, constraints and potential impacts. The findings from these investigations are being incorporated into the design, alongside community feedback

We sought feedback from our stakeholders and the Kelston, New Lynn and Glen Eden community on proposed changes to make it safer to walk, cycle and scooter in this area. A summary of the feedback has been collated, and all feedback has been reviewed.
We invited the local community to complete an online survey about how they travel around, Kelston, New Lynn and Glen Eden, and what improvements could encourage more people to walk and cycle.
The survey showed that Kelston and New Lynn communities would be interested in walking and cycling as a part of their commute if we provided a safer cycling and walking routes. The responses also reflected broader feedback and research on the need for social cycling and walking events in Kelston, New Lynn and Glen Eden.
