What it is
A Wheels Day is a fun whole-school activity that promotes active travel, health and fitness, wheeling skills and road safety.
Activities might include bike maintenance and helmet checks, and games such as 'How slow can you go?', 'Hot chips', obstacle courses and time trials.
We can support you to plan and promote the day and supply an equipment kit and spot prizes if needed. See our activity plans and bike game videos for ideas on what you could include as part of the day.
Aim
To promote sustainable, active travel across the school by showing how wheeling is good for the health and wellbeing of students and the planet.
The day provides students with a safe space to cycle, scooter, skateboard or skate with their peers. It's also a great opportunity to build skills, grow in confidence, and learn key road safety practices.
Learning Opportunities
Students develop planning, collaboration, leadership, and communication skills as they deliver a safe and successful school event. They build an understanding of safe cycling and scootering practices, including correct helmet fitting, while creating engaging learning experiences and sharing key safety messages with other students.
