Walking and drivingOverview
The need for this project was identified by the Manurewa Active Modes Action Plan. People use this crossing to get to and from Jellicoe Park.
Currently, people crossing Jellicoe Road near Halsey Road need to find a safe gap to cross both directions of traffic at once. This can be difficult.
New pedestrian refuge islands will let people cross in two stages, giving them a safe place to pause while helping keep traffic moving.
To improve safety and accessibility we're planning to:
- install 2 new pedestrian refuge islands on Jellicoe Road, one on either side of the Halsey Road intersection
- upgrade the existing refuge crossing on Halsey Road at the Jellicoe Road intersection
- remove 11 on-street parking spaces on Jellicoe Road to improve visibility and provide safer crossing points around the intersection.
