Overview

We expect this part of Auckland to grow a lot over the next 30 years. We’re working with our partners to build the public transport network ahead of that growth. This will help minimise traffic congestion and emissions.

It will also make it easier for you to get around the local area and the wider Auckland region.

Paerātā and Drury stations opened on 2 August 2026, the City Rail Link opened on 13 September 2026, and Ngākōroa Station will follow in 2027. These rail upgrades will give you faster, more convenient journeys and better access to the city centre.

To complement these rail upgrades, we're delivering a new bus network for west Franklin. New and improved bus services will help you get to and from:

  • the new stations
  • existing stations at Pukekohe and Papakura
  • key destinations such as schools, jobs and town centres.

Plan your journey using the new stations and bus services with our Journey Planner.

The existing 395 bus service between Waiuku, Glenbrook, Kingseat, Te Hihi, Karaka and Papakura Station started running to a better timetable.

The existing 396 bus service between Waiuku, Patumahoe and Pukekohe Station started running to a better timetable.

Engagement on the proposed bus network for west Franklin ran from 20 October until 16 November 2025. Based on the feedback, we made several changes to the network.

Alongside feedback, we considered a range of factors when finalising the west Franklin bus network. In particular:

  • the availability of funding and key resources such as buses and drivers limits what can be delivered
  • some of the most requested changes could not be made for safety reasons
  • some of the requests were not supported by the Regional Public Transport Plan.

The Engagement Summary and Decisions Report summarises the feedback, and the requested changes we were and were not able to make.

Feedback was collected through:

  • an online survey
  • in-person drop-in sessions
  • meetings with the Franklin Local Board, Franklin Ward Councillor and mana whenua
  • meeting with residents and business associations, and developers.
