Overview

Planned upgrades at Devonport Wharf will replace ageing ferry berth infrastructure and improve safety, accessibility and the customer experience. The upgrades will also support future ferry services and new vessels, including hybrid electric ferries.

The work includes:

  • renewing the Pier 2 berth, including a new entrance and covered vestibule
  • installing new gangways and berthing platforms at Piers 1 and 2
  • providing improved boarding access at Pier 1.

Design and resource consent for Pier 2 are complete. Construction is expected to take place from December 2027 to December 2028.

Pier 1 is currently in the planning and design stage, with construction expected from January to December 2028.

During construction, there may be increased contractor activity, changes to pedestrian routes and occasional impacts to access. We will provide updates as the project progresses and maintain safe access where possible.

Latest updates

Design and resource consent for the terminal and Pier 2 are complete. Work on the terminal waiting area and Pier 2 has also been completed.

The next stages include procurement and construction for the terminal and Pier 2, followed by design, resource consent, procurement and construction for Pier 1.
