Location

Constable Road, Waiuku

Transport involved

Walking

Overview

There is a gap in the footpath on the northern side of Constable Road, between 15 and 3 Constable Road.

Pedestrians in this area, including those heading to the civic centre to the east, currently have to walk on the road or cross to the footpath on the opposite side. The proposed footpath will complete the connection between the two existing footpaths on the western side of Constable Road.

Community feedback

Engagement on the proposed footpath along Constable Road, Waiuku has now closed.

Feedback from some community members indicates support for the proposal. They noted it will make it easier for elderly residents and parents with young children to cross the road safely at the bend.

We're proceeding with the proposal as planned. We will be in touch with local residents before any work begins in the area.

What we're doing

To improve walking connections in the area, we're proposing to:

  • build a new footpath along the northern side of Constable Road, between 15 and 3 Constable Road, with kerb extensions to make space for the new path
  • rebuild concrete driveways along the footpath length
  • install new "no overtaking" centreline markings to align with updated lane width and geometry
  • remove 18 on-street parking spaces to create space for the new footpath.

Project benefits

Footpath connection

Completes a missing footpath gap on the northern side of Constable Road, giving people a dedicated, continuous walking route.

Improved safety

Removes the need for people to walk on the road or cross to the other side, improving safety for all pedestrians in the area.

More accessible

Improves walking access and comfort for residents travelling to and from the civic centre and other local destinations.
