Overview

Residents have requested from us to address the access problem caused by how cars are parking on Calder Place. The road is narrow and residents have reported difficulty entering and exiting the road at times.

To address this issue, we plan to paint broken yellow lines (no parking at all times) at the Calder Place and West Tamaki Drive intersection, along the western side of the road, and at the cul-de-sac turning circle.

We expect to deliver this project by June 2026.

These changes will make it clear where it’s safe and legal to park following what has been set out in the Land Transport Rule.

The change will keep the road clear so residents and their visitors, emergency service providers, and rubbish trucks to safely travel through Calder Place.

If you think we’ve missed something or there is something in the area, we should be aware of, please get in touch with us by 24 April 2026 through atengagement@at.govt.nz or 09 355 3553.

Timeline

We received a request from residents to improve access

Completed
October 2025

In October 2025, we received a request from Calder Place residents to improve road access issues caused by parked cars.

Many residents asked AT to look into no parking on both sides of the road.

Investigating the issue and coming up with a solution

Completed
October to December 2025

We visited Calder Place and proposed solutions that follow what has been set out in the Land Transport Rule. People shouldn’t park within 6m of an intersection or in a way that makes it hard for other drivers to get in and out of the street.

Although it may appear there are fewer on-street parking spaces, we’re only making it clear where it’s legal to park. This means the number of legal on-street parking spaces hasn’t changed.

We understand some residents have asked us to consider no parking on both sides of Calder Place. We paint broken yellow lines only where they’re needed to keep people safe and maintain visibility.

We’ve considered the width of the road and how many people are parking here. We found that painting broken yellow lines on one side of the road is sufficient.

We’ve also considered other layout options, but the current plan keeps the most parking spaces while still allowing safe access for residents and their visitors.

Community engagement

In progress
February 2026

We want to share our plan to improve access on Calder Place and get in touch with those who may be impacted by this change.

Detailed design

Upcoming
Early to mid-2026

We will finalise the design specifications, contractor scheduling, and materials necessary to complete the project.

Delivery

Upcoming
Mid-2026

We expect to paint the broken yellow lines by June 2026.

Project benefits

Improved road safety and access

Painting broken yellow lines will prevent vehicles from parking opposite each other, too close to the intersection or in the turning area. This helps keep the road clear and makes it safer.

Easier to enter and exit driveways

Allowing parking only on one side of the road makes it easier for drivers to see when they are getting in and out of their driveways.

Reliable access for essential services

Keeping the road clear means ambulance, police, fire and emergency services, and rubbish trucks can always get through the street when needed.
