Overview

A local resident asked us to investigate how to make it easier for rubbish trucks to collect rubbish and turn around on Allen Avenue. When cars are parked in the turning circle, rubbish trucks cannot safely collect rubbish and turn around at the end of the road.

Auckland Council’s Waste Management team also confirmed that rubbish trucks are having difficulty operating safely and efficiently in this area.

After investigation, we're planning to make changes to parking on Allen Avenue to address these issues.

What we're planning

We will paint broken yellow lines ('No stopping at all times') around the turning circle. This will remove four parking spaces.

We understand that some residents and visitors may want to park in this area. However, this parking change is required to support essential services. Rubbish trucks need to be able to collect rubbish and turn around safely.

This change will also enable emergency services such as fire engines to access the street more quickly and safely too.

Give feedback

We're asking the community to give feedback from 23 June to 14 July 2026. Let us know what you think about the project, and if there's anything we've missed.

Email atengagement@at.govt.nz with "Allen Avenue BYL" in the subject line.

Project benefits

Improved access for rubbish trucks

Keeping the turning circle clear will make it easier and safer for rubbish trucks to collect rubbish and turn around, reducing delays and missed collections.

Improved access for emergency vehicles

Emergency service vehicles, including large fire trucks, will be able to access this street quickly and safely during a call-out.
