Overview

What’s happening instead?

In 2022, we proposed a raised zebra crossing at 47 Opaheke Road. Further investigations showed this isn’t feasible due to heavy stormwater flows when it rains and the slope of the road, which would cause drainage issues.

We’re still focused on making crossings safer for schoolchildren and pedestrians. While the design has changed, the goal hasn’t.

The updated plan improves visibility and helps slow drivers through better markings, signage, lighting, and surface treatments.

Good news

  • No extra parking will be removed.
  • Opaheke School supports the updated design.
  • Upgrades at 12 Tasman Drive are continuing.

Key improvements at 47 Opaheke Road

  • New road markings and signage.
  • Widened footpaths near the crossing.
  • High-friction road surface to slow vehicles.
  • Tactile pavers for visually impaired pedestrians.
  • Improved lighting and new Belisha beacons.
  • Broken yellow (no stopping) lines.
  • New Stayput crossing signs.

Updates at 12 Tasman Drive

  • Updated road markings and signage.
  • Broken yellow (no stopping) lines.
  • Removal of proposed special school parking spaces.
  • Existing school bus stops retained with new signage.
  • Tactile pavers, improved lighting, and Belisha beacons.
