Walking, driving, bus and cyclingOverview
We’re responding to concerns raised by the community and the Ōrākei Local Board.
City bound, western side of Mission Bay town centre (near the beach)
We will:
- install a new refuge island so cyclists can safely cross Tāmaki Drive
- extend the 2-way cycle lane on the beach side of Tāmaki Drive
- remove the existing lowered kerb and install a new standard kerb
- update road markings, including the median and edge lines
- reprioritise 4 on-street parking spaces.
Eastern side of Mission Bay town centre (near Selwyn Avenue)
We will:
- create a new bus boarding area, giving bus passengers their own safe space without blocking the footpath or cycle path
- remark and paint the footpath and cycle lane to help indicate spaces for pedestrians, cyclists and bus users
- build a dedicated crossing and waiting area next to the bus stop, giving bus passengers their own safe space without blocking the footpath or cycle path
- shift the centre line so the eastbound lane is widened to 4.5m, giving people on bikes more room to merge safely with traffic.
We will not change parking.
