Overview

We're planning upgrades designed to improve safety for everyone using the Favona Road and Harania Avenue intersection, whether you live, work or visit the area.

Planned upgrades include:

  • installing traffic lights and new signalised pedestrian crossings
  • installing an additional left-turning lane from Favona Road into Harania Avenue
  • rebuilding the footpath, kerb and grass berm where needed
  • rebuilding the driveway outside 2A Harania Avenue
  • improving the road surface, signs and road markings where needed
  • removing the unneeded bus stop and realigning the kerb and footpath.

To make space for these changes, 11 parking spaces will be removed from the surrounding area.

We plan to remove parking at:

  • 80 Favona Road - 3 parking spaces
  • 95 Favona Road - 4 parking spaces
  • 1 Harania Avenue - 3 parking spaces
  • 2 Harania Avenue - 1 parking space.

Project benefits

Better traffic flow

The new signalised intersection will balance the traffic flow for all 3 legs of this intersection and make it safer for all road users.

Safer turning movements

The signal will help manage turning movements and lower the crash risk at this high-risk intersection.

Clearer road layout

Upgrades to the road surface, signs and road markings will make the intersection layout clearer and easier to understand.

Safer crossings

The new signalised pedestrian crossings will make it safer and easier for people to cross at the intersection.

Project background

Currently, access to this intersection is a high risk, which has been a safety concern for the community.

It is currently ranked as the 27th highest risk intersection on the Auckland roading network. In the past, there were 15 reported crashes, 7 resulting in minor injuries.

The current road layout isn’t easy for people to move around, which means accidents are more likely.

By making these improvements, we’ll create a safer, more accessible, and better-connected space for everyone who lives, works, or visits this area.
