These upgrades will enhance the overall station experience, making people feel safer, and improve access to the station.
The improvements will include:
- restoring the asphalt, walls and ceiling of the underpass
- improving the lighting with anti-vandal lights
- enhancing the drainage system by adding drainage channel grids
- replacing the fencing with balustrades around underpass entrances
- upgrading the CCTV system
- making landscaping improvements and relocating the existing electrical
box.
The work is being done while construction of the Glen Innes Station pedestrian bridge is underway, to minimise the overall period of disruption for the community.
We understand that the community has been impacted by various works, and combining the pedestrian bridge and underpass works, will allow us to return the station to full access sooner than if these works were staged.
Once the renewal is complete, the improved underpass will be decorated with new artwork, in collaboration with mana whenua and the local community.
During the underpass construction period (13 April 2026 to mid-June 2026), the underpass will be fully closed. Access to Glen Innes Station will be limited to the current level crossing entrance from Apirana Avenue.
People who use the underpass to access the station, or to cross between the Felton Matthew Avenue side of the station and the town centre Apirana Avenue side of the station, will need to detour along Merton Road.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during construction.
