There will be upgrades happening at the station from the Easter Weekend and continuing till July 2026.
Pedestrian bridge
The temporary pedestrian bridge screen at Middlemore station is being replaced with a permanent, lightweight solution to improve safety at Middlemore Station.
The bridges at Middlemore station have been covered with a temporary scaffolding solution. We will be replacing this with a permanent, lightweight screen for increased safety on these bridges over the railway tracks.
This work will be done in stages, over long weekends when there are planned rail network closures. This will allow the teams to safely work over the rail corridor and minimise impact on Middlemore Hospital staff, patients, visitors and the travelling public.
Lifts
The lifts at Middlemore Station are in need of refurbishment and will be renewed to improve reliability and efficiency.
The lifts will be out of service on:
- Easter weekend: Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April 2026
- Monday 11 May to Sunday 12 July 2026.
At the same time, we will be upgrading the lifts at Middlemore Station. The two lifts - one to the platform and one on the Middlemore Hospital side of the station, need refurbishment and will be modernised for increased reliability and efficiency.
As part of this lift upgrade, we will also be improving the weather tightness of the lift shafts.
Access to the station during works
We will give directions to pedestrians on the best way to move through the station during the works. We will provide clear signage as the routes may change as the works progress.
Step free access will be limited during this time. We understand that the lifts are critical for people with accessibility needs or pushchairs. You will experience greater reliability once the lifts are renewed.
Alternatively, you may want to use Otahuhu Station during this time.
Mobility transport
Mobility transport will be available for people who would ordinarily need the lifts from the station to the hospital or to get from the Orakau Road side of the station to the hospital.
Alternative transport
For people with access needs, alternative mobility transport is available.
