We’re improving safety for people walking and crossing Queen Street, George Street, Kent Street and Mellsop Avenue in Waiuku.
Following feedback in April 2023 and workshops with the Franklin Local Board, the design has been updated.
June 2024
The proposed raised zebra crossing on Queen Street is now an at grade (flat) zebra crossing. It will move from outside 118 to 120 Queen Street, near the skatepark and playground, and include side islands and high-friction surfacing.
Other improvements include:
- tactile pavers at crossing points - these are yellow guidance paving markers to help people to find their way to crossings and safely across roads
- new pedestrian refuge/traffic islands on George Street and Queen Street
- a new footpath by the skatepark and playground, footpath rebuilds and upgrade grass berms at nearby intersections
- broken yellow lines will be installed on Kent Street, George Street and Mellsop Avenue to improve visibility - these changes include removal of 5 on street parking spaces
- signs and new road markings will be added to support these changes.
