View images of your infringement
Images are available online within 5 to 10 working days for all vehicle infringements and most Harbourmaster infringements.
Check your images before you act
Before paying or disputing your fine, check the images of the offence.
When you view your images:
- confirm the vehicle is yours
- check the date, time and location.
Once you've seen your images, you can either pay or dispute your fine online or by post. We cannot process disputes over the phone.
If you were not the one driving, you can transfer the fine to the correct person.
How to view your images online
Images are available for:
- most parking infringements
- special vehicle lane (including bus lane or transit lane) infringements
- most other vehicle infringements
- most Harbourmaster infringements.
Select 'View images now' and enter the infringement number on your ticket and licence plate (vehicle registration plate) number.
You must have both of these numbers to manage your fine online. This is to make sure your information is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone except the person with the ticket.
If images are available, you'll see one or more images captured by our cameras.
If your images aren't showing
It can take 5 to 10 working days from the date of an offence for images to show online. If you still can’t see any images after this time, please call our team for help.
How we collect images
As technology evolves, we are able to collect better and more accurate images. Using technology helps us make sure we’re sending tickets to the right people for the right reasons.
Here are some of the ways that we collect images.
We use License Plate Recognition (LPR) cars in many areas of Auckland. These cars have cameras mounted on them which check for things like:
- incorrect parking
- overstaying a time restriction
- failure to pay for parking
- parking permits
- blocked vehicle entrances (driveways)
- current vehicle registration.
The high-quality cameras can capture even small details such as the position of tyre valves. This can help verify whether a vehicle has been moved or not.
Parking wardens review the footage and all other evidence to decide whether an offence has occurred and may send you a ticket.
In some areas of Auckland, parking and other vehicle offences are enforced by parking wardens on foot. If they see an offence, they will take photos and may leave a ticket on the vehicle at the time, or send it later by post.
We use CCTV cameras to monitor many of our special vehicle lanes (including bus and transit lanes). This is governed by Auckland Transport (AT)'s CCTV policy.
The footage is manually reviewed by a parking warden to determine whether an offence has occurred.
If you use a special vehicle lane (including bus and transit lanes) incorrectly, you’ll get a ticket with images showing your vehicle:
- at the point it entered the special vehicle lane enforcement area
- driving through the special vehicle lane
- at the point it exited the special vehicle lane enforcement area.
If you're using a special vehicle lane to make a turn or avoid vehicles in the other lane, you may only use it for the minimum length necessary to cross it. This should be no more than 50 metres. You must also give way to all vehicles entitled to use the lane.
Transit lanes are monitored with Vehicle Occupancy Detection (VOD) CCTV cameras.
This uses a series of cameras and a computer interface to help determine the number of people in a vehicle.
The footage is manually reviewed by a parking warden to determine whether an offence has occurred.
How we store images
Images are available through a secure database on our website until your case is resolved. A case is resolved when the fine is paid, the notice is waived, or a court hears the matter.
To access your images, you must have both the infringement number on your ticket and your licence plate (vehicle registration plate) number. You cannot look up images by license plate alone. This is to make sure your information is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone except the person with the ticket.
Public transport and Harbourmaster images only require the infringement number on your ticket.
Images are kept in secure storage for a period of time after your case is resolved, then securely deleted by our information management team.
