Types of monthly passes
Unlimited travel in all zones for one calendar month on Auckland’s buses and trains.

Buy a monthly pass online (4 steps)
Before you start
Have a registered AT HOP card and have your credit or debit card details handy.
- Monthly pass price does not include the $5 purchase price of an AT HOP card (non-refundable).
- Activated AT HOP monthly passes are non-refundable.
- Only one monthly pass of each type can be loaded on your card at a time. A second monthly pass can only be loaded once the first monthly pass has been activated.
Choose the card you want to apply a monthly pass to
In your MyAT account, under MyAT HOP cards:
- choose the card you want to apply a monthly pass to
- go to the ‘Available products’ tab
- select ‘Buy a monthly pass’.
Select monthly pass and pay
- Choose the type of monthly pass you want.
- Confirm your payment details then select ‘Pay now’. Your pass will show as pending in your account.
- Allow 1 hour for the pass to be processed before moving on to Step 4.
Tag on to activate
Tag on within 60 days to activate your monthly pass.
Your monthly pass starts from the day you tag on. For example, if your tag-on date is 13 January, your pass is valid until midnight of 12 February.
If you do not tag on within 60 days, the payment will be returned to your credit or debit card.
Travelling with your AT HOP monthly pass
Tag on and tag off
So that you’re charged the correct fare, you must tag on at the start of your journey and tag off at the end. If you fail to tag on or off, you will be charged the default fare.
Using HOP credit with your monthly pass
We suggest that you maintain a small HOP balance in addition to your monthly pass. HOP credit can be used to cover travel not included in your monthly pass.
If your HOP card balance is negative, you will not be able to use your card or your monthly pass until you top up your card.
