Walking, driving, bus and cyclingOverview
We’re working to improve the transport network across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Albany’s population is growing.
We’re investigating traffic network improvements with safe walking and cycling options:
- along Albany Highway
- between Bush Road and Sunset Road
- some parts of Goldfinch Rise.
Parts of Albany Highway have no footpaths on either side of the road, which makes walking and catching buses unsafe and difficult.
Traffic concerns are common and we are working through options to:
- improve congestion
- make it safer to walk
- improve reliability of access for people using all transport modes through the corridor.
While we investigate and shortlist design options, we will continue to keep you informed and engaged on our progress.
Latest updates
We have started investigations into improving connections in Albany.
We are working with the key stakeholders, local boards and asking for your feedback on what you would like to see in your area.
Subject to funding, which could take some time to be established, we will continue working on:
- designs
- consenting
- safety audits
- funding confirmation.
We plan to share the designs through public consultation in 2026. After the public consultation, we will review the feedback and report back on key outcomes.
