BusOverview
In 2024 Auckland Transport, along with the Rodney Local Board, implemented a new one-way bus service in Warkworth – route 999. Our purpose was to improve local commuters’ access to public transport.
The trial route has 6 bus stops:
- Percy Street (outside the medical centre)
- 25 Lilburn Street
- opposite 7 Pulham Road
- 15 Woodcocks Road (outside Mahurangi College)
- opposite 25 Mansel Drive (outside Summerset Falls Retirement Village)
- 62 Hill Street.
The 999 bus travels one-way in a clockwise direction approximately every 30 minutes.
The trial will run until 2027. A final decision on the outcome of the trial will be made after this, using data collected during the trial period.
Update and changes: November 2025
After engaging with the Warkworth community and receiving feedback, we are going ahead with this project as planned. There will be one change from the original plan:
- A new footpath will be installed on Alnwick Street, providing better connections for pedestrians. This footpath will complete the link from the medical centre to the corner of Southgate Road.
We expect to start work in late November or early December on Neville Street. The Alnwick Street footpath work will start in January to minimise disruption over the Christmas and New Year period.
Latest updates
Following feedback from the community and local board, we are planning to make some changes to the bus stops on route 999. We will:
- add a new bus stop at 20-26 Neville Street (near the RSA and town centre)
- move the existing bus stop from 23 Percy Street to 11 Alnwick Street.
The Neville Street stop allows people to easily access the town centre. It also improves accessibility to childcare facilities, kindergarten and the RSA.
Percy Street’s steep gradient made it difficult for some passengers to access the bus safely. Moving the stop to Alnwick Street provides a flatter and safer option, with an existing shelter and seating available for passengers.
To minimize the impact to the community during construction, we are planning to install a new footpath on Alnwick Street while working on the bus stops. The footpath will run between the medical centre driveway at 11 Alnwick Street and the end of the street parking near the Bertram Street intersection. This footpath will connect to 13A, 13B and 15 Alnwick Street.
