Project details

Start date

November 2025

End date

2027

Location

Great South Road, Papatoetoe

Transport involved

Driving, bus and cycling

Overview

Great South Road is one of Papatoetoe’s busiest roads, used by over 19,000 vehicles every day. It connects the growing Papatoetoe community to Otahuhu, Manukau and beyond.

Congestion is a problem on this busy road, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. This leads to unpredictable and unreliable travel times.

Auckland Transport are planning some changes to make driving, cycling, or busing along Great South Road smoother and more reliable.

Timeline

Open to public feedback

In progress
17 November to 14 December

We will publish our plans online, deliver brochures to local residents, and talk to the community about our plans.

Evaluation and decision-making

Upcoming
December 2025 to early 2026

Our team will read all the feedback received, and evaluate it alongside other factors such as network needs, expert advice, and where it fits in with our plans and agreements with Auckland Council. We will let you know the final outcome of this project, and publish a feedback report responding to key themes, questions, and concerns from the community.

Detailed design and construction

Upcoming
Early 2026 to mid 2027

If we decide to proceed with the project, we will progress to detailed design and construction. We would expect to deliver this project in late 2026 or first half of 2027.
