When you sell or buy a jetski or personal watercraft, you'll need to get the registration transferred to the new owner.

Cost

There is no cost for transferring the registration of a jetski or personal watercraft that has already been registered.

Vessel is unregistered or registered outside Auckland

If you buy an unregistered jetski or personal watercraft, you'll need to register it.

Find out more about the registration process.

If your vessel is already registered in Auckland, Bay of Plenty or Northland, you'll need to ensure that the registration is transferred to the new owner. The seller needs to initiate a transfer of registration via myAT or you can contact the Harbourmaster at harbourmaster@at.govt.nz or phone 09 362 0397.

If your vessel is already registered in Waikato (including Taupo), the seller will need to transfer the registration held by the Waikato Regional Council. Find out how to contact the Waikato Regional Council about jetski registrations.

You can use vessels in Auckland that have been registered by a governing body in New Zealand.

Vessels registered in Auckland start with the number 1 and Waikato start with the number 9.
