Project background

Auckland Transport worked with the Waitematā Local Board to improve walking and cycling options in the area.

The Local Active Modes Plan aimed to identify opportunities to improve how people experienced the neighbourhood.

Your knowledge helped develop a programme in the inner‑west suburbs to make them safer and more user‑friendly for walking and cycling.

We asked about:

  • which roads and streets, paths or shortcuts you liked to take
  • which roads and streets you tended to avoid, and why
  • locations where you would have liked to see safety and accessibility improvements.

The suburbs we were looking at included:

  • Herne Bay
  • Saint Mary’s Bay
  • Three Lamps
  • Westmere
  • Ponsonby
  • Freeman’s Bay
  • West Lynn
  • Grey Lynn
  • Arch Hill.

The public could drop a pin in an interactive map, email us with insights or drop into one of our in‑person sessions at the Grey Lynn Community Centre.

Public consultation closed on 31 May 2024.
