Cyclone Vaianu is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the Auckland region on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April.  Heavy rain and severe weather may cause surface flooding and road disruptions around Auckland. The Auckland Transport Operations Centre are updating Google Maps and Waze with known flooding and other road impacts. Please check the map below or use the Google Maps or Waze app when travelling to avoid roads that are flooded.

The table below lists where there are known flooding and other road impacts in Auckland that have been reported to the Auckland Transport Operations Centre. Please be advised that surface flooding can appear and spread quickly and may take some time before it is reported to the Auckland Transport Operations Centre and updated on this page.

Report flooding and road incidents

To report flooding happening now on roads or footpaths, phone Auckland Council: 09 301 10101

If the flooding is on a highway or motorway, call Waka Kotahi | NZ Transport Agency on 09 969 9800.

If there is an immediate risk to life on private property or public land, call 111

Please drive safely and avoid areas where there is flooding. Do not drive through flood waters. There might be debris or hazards you can’t see.

Driving Safely

When there is heavy rain and wind, there is a higher safety risk. Drive to the conditions by:

  • slowing down
  • allowing more space between cars
  • put your lights on when visibility is low 
  • ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts 
  • staying alert. 

Do not drive through flood waters. There might be debris or hazards you can’t see.
