Walking and drivingOverview
Currently there is no pedestrian crossing across Woburn Street. There is an existing crossing at a set of traffic lights on Portage Road just northeast of the intersection. Without a safe crossing on Woburn Street it is difficult for people to move safely between these streets.
Installing a new crossing on Woburn Street will make it safer and easier for everyone to travel through the area. This will benefit all pedestrians — including students going to nearby Kedgley Intermediate and Aorere College.
Latest updates
As part of the intersection upgrades we will:
- build a new pedestrian crossing across Woburn, providing a safe place for people to pause when crossing
- move the existing kerb back to increase the width of the lane
- add a footpath and pram crossing leading to the new pedestrian crossing
- install tactile pavers (yellow guidance markers) to assist vision impaired pedestrians
- remove 15 on-street parking spaces along Woburn Street and Portage Road — this will increase visibility for pedestrians using the new crossing and for drivers travelling through the intersection.
