EcoMatters, winner of the 2020 Superior Grassroots Action Community award shows us that even the smallest change can make the biggest difference. Their dedication to not only help, but also educate the community has meant that this recipient has made a huge impact in the lives of local Aucklanders.

The EcoMatters Bike Hubs have encouraged more than 7,890 visitors to get active and get on a bike. As a result the cycling community is growing and blossoming.

The Bike Hubs offer everything a budding cyclist could need from:

  • information about looking after your bike,
  • new cycling trails,
  • places to rent bikes or buy second hand bikes,
  • and information about cycling events, such as Biketober.

The Bike Hubs are open 16 to 18 hours per week, including Saturday and Sunday, and always have trained staff and volunteers on hand ready to help. There are currently three Bike Hubs in existence throughout Auckland, in New Lynn, Henderson and Glen Innes.

In 2019 alone the EcoMatters Bike Hubs gifted 52 bikes to those in need, a beautiful reminder of just how much they are doing for the Auckland community. The Bike Hubs are run as a not-for-profit, charitable entity through the EcoMatters Trust. The best bit is the Bike Hubs support other cycling groups, stores and events.

The EcoMatters Bike Hubs truly care about the cycling community, and that is why they are the 2020 Superior Grassroots Action Community Award winner.
