Vehicle crossing standards

Auckland Transport released a new set of vehicle crossing standards on 2 October 2017. These standards apply to all areas in the Auckland Council/Auckland Transport area and supersede the old legacy council standards that have been in use.

The engineering standards relate to the physical construction of vehicle crossings, including the thickness and strength of concrete required, integration of the footpath, and maximum gradients.

You must get written approval from AT before you start building a vehicle crossing. Find out about the application process.

Region-wide vehicle crossing standards

Vehicle crossings that were approved prior to 2 October 2017 but not started by that date should be constructed in accordance with the new region-wide standards.

Legacy council standards will be applied to vehicle crossings that were approved prior to 2 October 2017 and that were under construction on that date.
