EV (electric vehicle) chargers are located at Devonport Wharf car park and in some AT car parks.


Cables

You will need to bring your own cable to use any of the EV chargers. Find out more on charging cables on the NZTA website. Check the type of cables required at Devonport Wharf and AT car parks.

There are a variety of providers where you can purchase cables from, including Chargemaster, Blue Cars, OEM Audio, Juice Point, E Charge, and others.


EV chargers at Devonport Wharf


At this time charge cards for new customers to use at the Devonport Wharf location are unavailable. The closest EV charging location is ChargeNet at New World, Clarence Street, Devonport.

We have installed two electric vehicle chargers at Devonport Wharf car park, which are free to use and are part of AT’s 12-month Smart City trial. Please note: these are not provided by ChargeNet.

The EV chargers at Devonport Wharf car park:

  • have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they are safe and compliant.
  • are free to use for the 12-month trial period.
  • require a Type 2 cable which users will need to bring themselves.
  • are 'medium charge' that have a maximum charging capability of 22kW (approximately 40km from 30 minutes charging). Time to charge depends on your vehicle and other factors.

How to use the EV chargers at Devonport Wharf

Smart City trial in Devonport

The Devonport Smart City Trial aims to collect and review data to understand how people move between different forms of transport. Two 'Smart Poles' have been installed at Devonport Wharf car park, the poles include two electric vehicle chargers as well as real time environmental data monitoring, parking sensors, Wi-Fi stations and adaptive lighting.

Devonport Wharf was chosen to be part of the Smart City trial because it combines various modes of transport (short-term parking, long-term parking, ferries, buses, walking and cycling) with varying patronage throughout the day, including commuters, visitors, and locals.

The free to use charging stations are provided by ChargeNet, they are standard AC and will provide drivers with a top-up charge.

How to use the EV chargers provided by ChargeNet

  2. Users need to bring their own cables, either:

    • or Type 2 to Type 2.
