West Tamaki Road, Wai O Taiki Bay - Parking Changes West Tamaki Road, Wai O Taiki Bay - Parking Changes

Proposal status: Closed

Reference number: RTV-469

Proposal outcome

In March 2023, we proposed changes to the carpark outside the shops at 227-241 West Tamaki Road. After reviewing all the feedback we received, we are proceeding with the work as proposed.

What happens next

We anticipate the changes will be completed in June/July 2023.

Community feedback

Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge. A summary of your feedback and our responses to community questions is below.

  • Suggestion that only one mobility parking space is needed with the hours 8am-4pm Monday to Saturday.

Thank you for your feedback. Only one mobility space is being proposed. Due to the width of mobility spaces (2.4m with a 1.1m hatched area), two of the angled spaces will need to be repurposed to allow enough space. Regarding the time limit, we feel that having the mobility space restriction apply at all times is suitable as the different businesses open and close at different times and are also open for different days throughout the week.

  • Request for more mobility parking.

We’ve identified that one mobility space is suitable for the area. The P180 restriction should encourage turnover meaning that it is available for people to use. Mobility permit holders who don’t need to park in a dedicated mobility space can use the other angled parking bays and would be entitled to double the time specified on the sign. So, in a P120 space they would get 240 minutes of parking, and in the P10 spaces they can stay for 20 minutes.

  • Suggestion to enforce people who use the mobility spaces for “just 2 seconds”.

While we understand the reason behind your request, we are not able to be there to enforce the space at all times. Any vehicle stopped without a mobility parking permit and seen by an officer would be issued an infringement. If you see someone parked illegally, please call our contact centre on 09 355 3553 to request enforcement.

We're proposing improvements in your area

Aucklanders have told us that moving around our city safely and easily is important to them. We are proposing some improvements to your area.

We are proposing:

  • A P120 (2 hour) parking zone in the carpark. The restriction would apply Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm.
  • A P180 (3 hour) mobility parking space on the eastern end of the carpark, next to the ramp in the kerb which provides access to the footpath. This restriction would apply at all times.
  • Four P10 parking spaces to allow for short-term parking outside the café and dairy. This would apply from Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm.

This would benefit your neighbourhood by:

  • Improving access to the shops for people who need mobility parking.
  • Managing parking demand and increasing parking availability.
  • Making parking easier and more efficient for those who are making a quick stop.
  • Reducing congestion caused by cars looking for a parking space.
