Why the changes are needed

This is expected to improve safety on this stretch of road by allowing better access to driveways and improved driver visibility. Parked cars are currently blocking access and visibility at the locations shown in the drawings above.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed with minor changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.

Feedback received

  • Concern that the proposed broken yellow lines would remove valuable parking space for residents, many of whom do not have off-street parking. Residents and visitors would be forced to park on neighbouring streets which are often occupied by visitors to Ponsonby.
  • Request to install broken yellow lines only at the entrance to Winn Road to prevent parked vehicles from blocking access to the road.
  • Request to remove the proposed broken yellow lines on the western side (lower section) of Winn Road.

Our response

After receiving this feedback we have reevaluated our plans. We will install broken yellow lines at the upper section of Winn Road only. We recognise the value and importance of on-street parking to residents, and as result we want to keep the loss of parking to a minimum whilst still improving access as well as visibility.

These broken yellow lines are required so that larger vehicles, can safely and effectively access Winn Road. This includes emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks, as well as rubbish trucks, and their access is essential.

Next steps

This work will happen in before July 2019, but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays. Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
