Why the changes are needed
This proposal aims to improve accessibility for residents and large vehicles such as emergency vehicles. When cars are parked on both sides of the road the space for through traffic is significantly reduced.
Proposal outcome
This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.
Feedback received
- Suggestion to also install Broken Yellow Lines along one side of Beauchamp Drive, and preferably the side with the least houses. The width of Beauchamp Drive (approximately 8.2 metres) allows for 2 metres of parallel parking on each side of the road while still allowing 2.5 metres for a through lane for drivers. Emergency services have also confirmed this is the minimum space required for their vehicles to have access.
While parked vehicles may reduce the traffic flow to a single lane at times, there are a number of points where vehicles can pass by using driveways. Parked vehicles can also make the road appear narrow to drivers and this can encourage slower speeds which generally improves road safety.
Next steps
This work will happen in between April and May 2019, but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays.
Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
